Israel must reject an Al Capone "peace"

What if...?
November 10, 2008

What if tomorrow all of our Arab enemies really wanted to make peace with Israel? What if Syria truly agreed to have complete peace with Israel in exchange for the Golan Heights? What if the PLO agreed never to launch another scud; never to blow up another bus or supermarket; never to crash a tractor into civilian cars and busses; never to stab another Jew; never to throw another rock at a passenger car, in exchange for a real state in Judea, Samaria and Gaza?

I would imagine that any of our leaders, or likely potential leaders, here in Israel would declare a national holiday and rush to sign on the dotted line to give away parts of our holy inheritance for real peace! Yes, even Bibi Netanyahu would exude joy and delight at the prospect of a new era of peace.

While, clearly, such a scenario is most unlikely, the reality is that a true Jewish leader would never consider parting with any part of Eretz Yisrael, even for genuine peace with our Arab neighbors. If we look at the other side of the coin we will see that no Arab nation ever willingly parted with what he considered his land. This is because the Arabs really believe the land belongs to them and they have self respect. The Jewish government, on the other hand, does not really believe that the land belongs to us, and they have no idea what self respect means. As President Shimon Peres once said, “Any entity which refuses to compromise its principles will never achieve peace.” Of course it is only Israel which compromises its principles... and she has yet to see any peace.

No country in the world would dream of sitting with murderous thieves in a futile attempt to appease them by willingly giving up parts of its homeland. This isn’t “negotiations”. It is out and out blackmail. It is what Al Capone once called “protection”. If you pay the goons “protection money”, they will stop wrecking your store. Is this the kind of “peace” we seek? Yet all of our leaders seem to eagerly accept such a peace.

Aside from the fact that this is obviously self delusion, we have no right to give away our inheritance even for real peace. We Jews were not given the land as a gift. We were given an obligation to possess, dwell in, and develop the Land according to Jewish mandates in our Torah.

Failing to do so in no way lessens our obligation. Trying to make “peace” by denying our obligations not only will never bring peace... it will and does bring needless tragedy as we have clearly seen. Look at all the peace we achieved by giving Gaza to the PLO. How can any intelligent person imagine that real peace will be achieved by giving away yet more land to those who are just waiting to use it as a base from which to destroy Israel?

It is forbidden to give away any part of our homeland, even to those who wish to live in peace with us.

How much moreso to think to give away land to those who are committed to our destruction? For real peace we should welcome foreigners to live as resident aliens, with no political rights and certainly no rights to sovereignty. Should such people wish to live in Israel and abide by our laws they should be given human rights only. When someone comes as a guest and then demands sovereignty, he is not really a guest, rather an enemy who must never be accepted under any circumstances. To negotiate with such people is to surrender your sovereignty even before any agreement might be reached. It is time for all Jews to understand the difference between peace and yielding to blackmail. It should be obvious. But clearly it isn’t.

Project Shofar is dedicated to spreading these truths wherever it is possible to do so. It is sounding the alarm, to Jew and Gentile alike,to open our eyes to the G-dly process that is presently underway, and work to support it. We dare not stand idly on the sidelines.

In your post you say two things I have to comment on.

One is, "...no Arab nation ever willingly parted with what he considered his land." The second is "Of course it is only Israel which compromises its principles... and she has yet to see any peace."

Both of these are clearly related, and patently false. Sounds like you need a history lesson!

Arab nations had to give up a chunk of land in 1947 when the UN, predominantly consisting of Allied (and non-Arab) powers, founded the state of Israel after World War II.

Israel then declared independence in 1948. This was at the behest of the surrounding Arab nations who almost universally declared war on the new country.

The mid-east has always been fraught with conflict, but the founding of Israel without a semblance of Arab support was a sure way to make a contentious situation boil over into outright violence. Ever since there's been a tit-for-tat butting of heads between Israel and Palestine.

If you look at the subsequent history, *neither* side compromises, *both* sides blame the other. I've come to the conclusion that *both* sides just love to fight. Their justifications are religious, nationalist, and racist.

At least we agree on one thing--peace will never happen.
